Social Media & Audience Engagement

From 2023 to 2024, I served as interim audience engagement editor for Nieman Reports and the Nieman Foundation, where my social media work contributed to nearly a 20% increase in pageviews. Now as assistant editor, I continue to maintain Nieman Reports' social media presence on Twitter/X, LinkedIn, and Bluesky. My colleague Peter Canova and I spearheaded the Foundation's foray into vertical videos for social media last year.

I’ve written hundreds of social media posts across a range of platforms, always with an eye toward clarity and audience connection. Below is a small selection of that work.

In the spring of 2025, I asked my colleague Peter Canova, "Why don't we make a stop motion film to promote our latest issue of Nieman Reports?" I wanted to show each stage of the magazine's production — from printing black-and-white drafts on plain paper and marking edits in red, to color-correcting glossy proofs, and finally watching the finished magazine return from the presses, printed, bound, and ready for distribution. I wanted to make our behind-the-scenes work visible to our readers.

I storyboarded the film and helped Peter shoot the hundreds of photos required for the stop-motion sequence, while he took care of the edits and sound design.

Magazine production is a dying art. It’s labor-intensive and painstakingly meticulous, but in a digitally saturated world, I feel lucky to know the process so intimately.
